...::Not an athlete, not an entertainer-- what's going on here???

We congratulate the Disney Channel for the kid cartoon show "Doc McStuffins." In it, a little Black girl runs a clinic for ailing toys, and she wants to grow up to be a ... doctor. Wow. This is as refreshing an idea as "Sesame Street" was back in the day. I predict that Black parents will eat it up, just as they did "Sesame Street." Even little Black boys are gonna love it. You watch.
Now, how about a cartoon in which a little Black *boy* goes around his neighborhood fixing things-- other kids' bikes, leaky waterhoses, kid arguments, all that. And since he is good at fixing things, he wants to grow up to be... President.

...::The Rose That Grew From Concrete

We all know the urban street corner can be hard, harsh, deadly.

But have you seen this?? This is some amazing dancing by these four brothers on a street corner in Oakland, CA. And the music is so ... visceral.

No wonder this video has gotten almost 1,500,000 views on YouTube. Dancers are No Noize (red jacket), Man (Black jacket), BJ (striped shirt), Dreal (white shirt). Directed and edited by Yoram Savion. Music by Erk tha Jerk.

Out of the harshest of places, in the hardest of times, four young Black men created a thing of beauty. Amazing.

...::Media Still Slighting Blacks In The Age Of Obama

Get thee behind me...

There is a Black Face in the White House, but media coverage of the Black community has not significantly improved. So says a new study by the widely-respected Pew Research Center. In fact, the study says, media coverage of Blacks may have gotten worse. Who woulda thought it. Read more here.

...::Race Butts Heads With Technology

The "face-recognition software" in the video below is supposed to make the camera follow you as you move. The software works with a white face, but not a Black face...

How could this have happened? It is possible that the software developers only used white folx as models when they were developing the software-- Bleep! No excuse!! That might explain >how< it happened, but it is no excuse for not including people of all colors as models as the software was developed.

As I have said before, technology, including the Internet, will not bring an end to racism, but can expand it. See the "technology" link below for more.
